The organisers are calling on amateur photographers to submit their works by 20 February 2015

Participation in the competition is open free of charge to amateur photographers working in Central Asia. The five winners (one winner per each of the competition theme) will be presented with diplomas and valuable prizes at the Gala Dinner organised on 19 March at Radisson Astana Hotel in Kazakhstan. Winning photographs will be published on MINEX Central Asia Forum website and announced via news releases and mining media. 

COMPETITION OBJECTIVES

  1. Presentation of the mineral wealth and diversity of Central Asia’s mining and metals industry by amateur photographers working in the region;
  2. Offering amateur photographers an open platform for exhibiting their works to wide international audiences and receiving peer recognition;
  3. Increasing public awareness of the mining industry’s increasing role in Central Asia’s socio-economic development and sustaining environmental balance

  3. “Caring for the Environment” – Industrial landscape or composition

PHOTOS SUBMITTED FOR THE COMPETITION MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

(a) The photographs must be relevant to the themes of the competition 

(b) The entrant may submit a maximum of 3 photographs for each category of the competition and the total number of photographs submitted should not exceed 15. 

(c) The photograph must have been taken by the entrant. 

(d) The photograph must be a single work of original material and cannot be a composition of numerous images. 

(e) The photograph must not be in the public domain. 

(f) The photograph must not be altered, however: cropping, spot toning, dodging and burning (and their digital equivalents) in the course of normal fine-tuning is authorised; and contrast adjustment and colour adjustment in the course of normal fine-tuning is authorised. In this clause, what constitutes an alteration in the course of normal fine tuning is determined in the Promoter’s sole discretion. 

(g) Subject to the terms and conditions of these Competition Rules, a photograph published on a website or exhibited in a gallery may also be entered unless the photograph or intellectual property rights to it have been sold. 

(h) The photograph must not be date stamped

(i)  Uploaded photograph should be saved in jpeg (with a minimum of 3Mb), or *tiff format at 300dpi at an A4 size (30cm x 21cm).

STATUTES OF THE “PROSPECTOR. MINER. METALLURGIST” AMATEUR PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION

  1. Amateur photography competition “Prospector. Miner. Metallurgist” is organised alongside MINEX Central Asia Mining and Exploration Forum.
  2. Participation in the competition is open free of charge to amateur photographers working at the mining enterprises in Central Asia.
  3. Deadline for entering the Competition: 20 February 2015
  4. The winners will be invited to receive the Awards at the MINEX Central Asia Gala Dinner organised on 19 March 2015 at the Radisson Astana Hotel in Kazakhstan. Organising committee cannot reimburse travel and accommodation expenses of the competition winners wishing to attend the Awards presentation ceremony. Where winner cannot attend the Awards presentation ceremony, his/her nominee diploma and Award will be posted by to the address indicated in the Application form submitted with the photographs.
  5. To participate in the Competition an application must be submitted with the high resolution photos before 20 February 2015.
  6. When required, photographers must seek company’s approval when submitting photographs of the mines and facilities operated by their mining company before entering the competition.
  7. Only works that have passed the preliminary selection and approval by the Forum Organising Committee will be accepted for participation in the Competition.
  8. Applicant can submit photographs for participation in several Competition categories.
  9. Applicant can submit no more than 5 (five) photographs.
  10. No more than 10 (ten) photographers from the same company can take part in the Competition.
  11. The maximum amount of photographs submitted to the competition – 1000.
  12. Photographs must be submitted royalty free. Applicants agree that the Competition organizers can use the photographs free of charge for producing media articles, announcements, press releases, as well as for artwork of printed and online products for MINEX Forum. All photographs, when possible will bear an indication of authorship.
  13. VERIFICATION, SELECTION AND WINNER SELECTION

(a) The Organiser reserves the right to verify the validity of entries and the entrant (including without limitation the entrant’s identity) and to disqualify the entrant if they submit an entry that does not comply with these Competition Rules, if they tamper in any way with the entry process, or if they are unable to demonstrate their eligibility for a prize.
(b) The Organiser reserves the right to void the photograph if it does not comply with the Competition Rules or if the photograph or the entry form is determined In the Organiser’s discretion to be illegible, incomplete, objectionable, damaged, irregular, altered, counterfeit, produced in error, obtained by mistake, fraud or theft or in breach of any law or regulation of any country.
(c) A judging panel shall be established by the Organiser, with the judges selected in the Promoter’s absolute discretion. The identity of the judges need not be disclosed by the Organiser and the decisions of the judging panel may remain anonymous.
(d) The judging panel may use any criteria in evaluating the photographs including artistic and visual appeal as well as the extent to which the photograph captures the themes of the competition.
(e) The Competition is held in four stages: 

Stage 1 – competition entry and verification (from 12 January 2015 till 20 February 2015)
Stage 2 – finalists selection nominee selection and announcement (20 February 2015) 
Stage 3 – winner selection (1 March 2015) 
Stage 4 – winner presentation and awards (19 March 2015)

(f) Winners will be notified as soon as practicable after the winners are confirmed by the judging panel.


Competition rules and regulations 

Organiser

The competition is organised and promoted by Advantix Ltd in the UK (Organiser of MINEX Central Asia Forum) and its subsidiaries in Kazakhstan.

Acceptance

Entry into this competition is deemed acceptance of these Competition Rules.

Entry

Entry to the competition will be open on 12 January 2015 and will close on 20 February 2015. Only works that have passed the preliminary selection and approval by the organising committee will be accepted for participation in the Competition.

Eligibility

Entry is free and is open to entrants from all countries providing the photos entered have been taken in Central Asia. The Entrant must be at least eighteen (18) years old at the time of entry.  The Entrant must not be a professional photographer. In this clause, a ‘professional photographer’ is a photographer who derives more than 50% of his or her income from photography. 

Entry process

To enter the competition the entrant must electronically complete the entry form, including his/her contact details, the date and location of where the  photograph was taken, the title of each photograph and upload the photograph in jpeg (with a minimum of 3Mb), or *tiff format at 300dpi at an A4 size (30cm x 21cm). 

Intellectual rights

Entrants must ensure the photographs submitted for the competition meet the intellectual rights requirements and provide the Organiser with the signed permissions of the copyrighted property or permission of the owner of the registered design. 

(a) If human subjects are used within the photograph it is the entrant’s responsibility to obtain the permission from the individual to use their image.  
(b) If the photograph contains a work of art that is protected by copyright, it is the entrant’s responsibility to obtain the owner’s permission to use the image of the copyrighted property before entering the photograph in the competition. 
(c) If the photograph contains property that is protected by a registered design (or similar) it is the entrant’s responsibility to obtain the permission from the owner of the registered design to use the image of the property within the photograph prior to entering it into competition. 
(d) Photographs must be submitted royalty free.
(e) Entry of the photograph into this competition is deemed to constitute an assignment of all the entrant’s rights pursuant to the Entry form and Intellectual rights regulation as described above to the competition Organiser. Applicants agree that the Competition organisers can use the photographs free of charge for producing media articles, announcements, press-releases and use the photographs for producing printed artwork. The organiser can also print the photographs and sell them at the Charity Auction organised alongside MINEX Central Asia Forum.  

Licence

 (a) By entering the competition the entrant grants to the Organiser a perpetual royalty free, non-exclusive licence to use the photograph for publication in any form or medium whatsoever and for any purpose whatsoever provided that the entrant’s credit to the photograph is included.
(b) By entering the competition the entrant consents to the Organiser using their name, image, photograph, likeness and voice in any form of media whatsoever, for an unlimited period of time and without remuneration for any purpose for which the licence in clause 8(a) is granted.
Exclusion of liability and indemnity 
(a) It is the entrant’s responsibility to ensure that they do not breach any laws to which they are subject when taking and submitting a photograph in connection with this promotion.
(b) The Organiser shall not be liable for any damage, sums of money, costs, charges, expenses, loss, injury or loss of life of any person, or any other damage whatsoever (including but not limited to indirect losses, loss of profits, consequential loss or damage) and however caused (whether or not arising from any person’s negligence), which may be suffered or incurred or which may arise directly or indirectly in connection with this promotion or the use of any prize, except for any liability which cannot be excluded by law (in which case that liability is limited to the minimum allowable by law).
(c) Without limiting clause the Organiser, its staff, officer employees and agents shall not be liable for any damage, sums of money, costs, charges, expenses, losses or any other damage (including but not limited to indirect losses, loss of profits, consequential loss or damage) caused by any administrative, clerical or technical error that may occur in the course of administering this promotion, including any omission, delay, interruption or other defect in respect of the transmission of any communication in connection with this promotion, except for any liability which cannot be excluded by law (in which case that liability is limited to the minimum allowable by law).
(d) By entering this competition the entrant agrees to indemnify and hold harmless the Organiser, against: (i) any injury, claim, loss, damage and other expense whatsoever and howsoever arising out of or in connection with the entrant’s participation in this competition or any competition-related activity and the acceptance and use, misuse, or possession of any prize. (ii) all liability arising from the infringement of a third party’s copyright, moral rights or other intellectual property rights or moral rights in connection with the use of the photograph. 
(e) All tax implications arising in connection with this competition are the responsibility of the entrant.
